Publishing a book is something you’ve always wanted to do. You know the power of becoming an author, and how it could transform your business.
So what’s holding you back?
Time? The effort involved? Self-doubt?
What if I told you it could be much easier to publish a book than you ever imagined it would be. And, that it would be worth every ounce of effort by ten-fold.
Not only is a book an asset that will generate revenue and adds a passive income stream to your cash flow, but it also becomes a marketing prop, adds opportunities to your sales funnel, and raises your authority and credibility. And not only that, your book can get you press and media opportunities, speaking gigs, and open all sorts of doors for you and your business.
Your book is an asset you will have for the rest of your life. Even if it doesn’t generate a massive amount of cash flow, the opportunities that crop up all over the place after becoming a published author more than make up for the time and effort you put into it.
And the best news? Writing a book doesn’t have to require the massive amount of time and grueling amount of effort that you have always imagined.
1. You don’t have to write everything.
If you don’t have the time, or the desire, to sit down and write an entire, record your book. Then get it transcribed.
There are many online tools like Otter.ai that help you transcribe audio and turn it into a book very quickly. All you have to do is say your thoughts out loud, record them, and submit it online for transcription. You can also send podcasts, interviews and radio shows in for transcription to turn into a powerful book.
2. Be resourceful with content.
As a business owner, it is a fact that you don’t have all the time in the world. Running a business and writing original content is something that is nearly impossible to do. The trick here is knowing when and what content to repurpose for your book. Think of all the content you have – blog posts, social media, podcasts, interviews, etc – and choose which ones you can edit and include in your book.
3. Follow the 10 x 10 x 3 technique.
What’s the fastest and smartest way to write a book? Writing down all the questions people are asking about your expertise…and then writing down all the questions people should be asking. Think of the answers to these questions, and layer them with a story people can relate to. Then add that AHA moment that ties them all together – it can be as easy as that!
4. Go multimedia.
You want your book in as many hands as possible, so, you need to publish it in different formats to reach all of your potential readers. You should publish a hardback/paperback book, an eBook and an audio book. Having a physical book is a must and will be your lasting platform, but you also need an eBook to cater to online readers and to be able to publish to Kindle, Nook, etc. And an audio book is an opportunity you definitely don’t want to miss out on, as it is one of the fastest growing trends today.
5. Your title, cover and call-to-action are everything.
Your cover is the first thing that people will see, so it needs to be as eye-catching and compelling as possible. The same goes for your title. Research keywords you can use to optimize your content, especially for eBooks and audiobooks. And don’t forget your CTA! Direct your readers to the next step…guide them into what you want them to do next. Whether you want them to make a larger ticket purchase, filter into your next step in your sales funnel, get on the phone with you, sign up for your services, etc.
And the most important tip of all…
6. Start writing now.
You’re never going to reap the rewards if you don’t act. And you’re never going to fly if you don’t leap.
Crank out your book as fast as you can; because if you don’t get the first book out, another one isn’t coming. If there are obstacles keeping you from writing your book, find a way to get around them. Record your thoughts, hire a ghost-writer, get it transcribed, hand off the design and the marketing…just make it happen. Throw your ego and perfectionism out the door and get the first one done. No more excuses, just do it!
It will pay off…
