A Time to Give

24 Dec A Time to Give

This time of year is welcomed for many of us. It’s a season to remember family and blessings. We also give during this time of year. We give for many reasons. We give to show love. We give to receive. We give to help those who might be less fortunate. And we give to create tax write offs. There are many other reasons why give too.

Over the years, we’ve talked about having Money Rules in place. However, one thing that we haven’t talked about is Charity Rules.

Every year we give to local charities.
This year we gave to:
• Life School

• Save the Bears-Bear League

• Family Resource Center

• Boys & Girls Club

Do you have rules set in place that allow for you to give – whether annually or ongoing. What charities do you give to and why?

    Hi Guys,

My son, Mac (who is nine years old) has been working on a soccer website, with the aim of raising funds for soccer balls for kids in Afghanistan. It has gone live in the last few days. http://www.macmillar.com.

We have a letter from the (Australian) Minister for Defence, Stephen Smith, offering to transport the balls to Afghanistan and have the Australian soldiers hand them out to the children in the village of Tarin Kot.

Mac has received a lot of support for the project and appeared on three national TV stations on Christmas Eve and one live radio broadcast. A good Christmas story, they told me. I wish I could get this kind of publicity for or business (JDMA Property Consulting and Valuations is the major sponsor of his site :).

    The website address is http://www.macmillar.com.

We have also created a facebook page for the cause. It would be great if we could get as many “likes” for the the page as possible. http://www.facebook.com/footballplayitforward.

The reason why I’m sending this is because it was the LOL course I did in October (Sydney) that inspired all of this. When I got back to Brisbane I was telling the kids everything I had learnt, the power of the internet and email marketing (I know they are only seven and nine – but never too young to learn these principles as Loral would say). Mac said he wanted to build a soccer website and send email newsletters about soccer, but he wanted to have a good reason, support a good cause. This is how he has come up with the idea of sending soccer balls to Afghanistan.

I said that I would support him and http://www.macmillar.com is the result (or just the beginning). He has learnt so much: how to make a website; how to use the CMS; how to make You Tube videos and upload to the website; web forms; collecting email addresses; database management; writing newsletters; blog; just to name a few things (and he is nine).

Anyway, I was wondering if this could go to Loral somehow, or out to the LOL community? And Randy perhaps? He might be interested to see the impact of things we discussed.

    Thanks for your time.
