While I was talking to Max, I asked him “what are your talents?” He told me he was a plumber. “That’s a JOB, Max. What are your TALENTS? What are you good at?” As we explored this question, I discovered that Max was a good listener. Then I asked him to tell me about his talents outside of work. Again, he answered with a role – father and husband.
It’s stunning how many people frame themselves according to their JOBS or roles in life. 9 out of 10 people will think of what their work talents are first before they think about who they are as a person. Max was exactly like one of those nine. He lacked confidence and certainty. Without that confidence and certainty, Max wouldn’t discover his other talents and he certainly wouldn’t put them to use to create his own cash machine and transcend his labels as a plumber, father and husband.
Furthermore, if he did get that cash machine going, Max would quickly overwhelm himself trying to do everything that he WASN’T as talented at. A person’s lack of confidence and certainty leads to the inability to identify talents, be sure of them, and build a team to fill in the gaps. There is not a single person on this planet who is capable of doing it all. The wealthy know that it takes a team to fill in the gaps so that busy time can be turned into productive time. If you try to do everything yourself, the sequence stops right there. Do not pass GO, do not collect a million dollars.
It all starts with changing the conversation. Stop thinking about yourself in terms of your job or what you do and start thinking of yourself in terms of what you are good at. Have faith and be confident in your gifts, skills and talents to turn them into generational wealth. That’s just the first part of the Yes! Energy Equation.
